Reaching People through Service Content: How I construct my YouTube Videos

I can still remember what Sean Cannell said in one of his live streams on Think media’s YouTube Channel — “there has to kinda be a marriage of selfish content versus service content and service should come first.”

This line gave a new perspective on how I plan on what’s next for my YouTube channel. We tend to share what we want when we think of our content, when we write our bullet points, or when we talk in front of the camera. But really, is it what our audience wants to hear? Or is it what we want to speak about?

Marriage of selfish content versus service content: Let’s consider the word “marriage” here. Not because we want to serve what our audience wants, we will just write or produce the video in a way “how” they want it. Viewers also consider the personality of the presenter. Viewers still want to see the “you” in the sea of the same content. Viewers will see and feel if you know the subject matter and you are passionate enough to share it with them. That’s the reason why you need to put your brand inside your video while providing value for them. Include your humor, personality, or even something unique where you’re shooting at with the consideration of still being relevant to what you’re talking about.

Service should come first: If we want to reach more audience, let’s stop having a mindset of “if they really want to watch my video, they will come”. Then after quite some time, you will say “why they’re not watching my videos!?”. If you really want to grow your channel or other social media account, find what your audience is searching for that you’re passionate about to share with them. It’s also an important factor that you know and loves the subject matter.

Here are 3 ways on how you can reach the audience who will watch your videos:

Ask them: Engage with them. Ask them in your comment section. Reply to their comments. Ideas are endless when you interact with your current audience. It’s also possible to attract the same circle of people if you nurture the community that you have on your social media. So please, communicate with your current audience.

Join in a community: Find a space where your niche or passion is relevant to them. Social media is created for you to socialize. It’s a give-and-take scenario. You cannot get what you want if you are not ready to give what you have. Join in a community and share all you’ve got and you will reap the things you’ve given.

Search Engine Optimization (SEO): I’m using TubeBuddy’s keyword search feature to see what keywords do my possible viewers search for on YouTube. If I want to share something about how to construct your content, I will think of myself as a viewer who wants to search on YouTube on how to construct my content. I will try different keywords with this in mind. In this way, I know that my videos will reach those people who really search for this kind of topic.

By having a mindset of doing these things for the reason of really helping them out, fulfillment will fill our hearts every view that our videos make, it may be big or small.
