We all have that “perfectionist” inside us, whether it’s in cooking, designing, playing instruments, or following a workout routine.

Don’t get me wrong; striving for the highest possible quality output is commendable, especially when dealing with third-party engagement or business-related matters.

However, when venturing beyond our usual tasks, exploring new things, trying out new techniques, or even uploading our first-ever content, we inevitably encounter unfamiliar territory, leading to mistakes, imperfections, or even undesirable outcomes.

Here are three reasons why I allow myself to make mistakes:

Mistakes made me aware

Self-awareness is invaluable.

Recognizing our limitations and areas for improvement is crucial for personal growth. Mistakes serve as signposts, highlighting what we cannot do yet or what requires further refinement.

They guide us towards becoming better versions of ourselves — cliché as it may sound, it’s undeniably true.

Mistakes made me grounded

Making mistakes reminds us of our inherent imperfection.

We cannot always be right, excellent, or perform at our peak every day. Mistakes humble us, offering a different perspective on the world.

They foster empathy, helping us understand others’ struggles and view setbacks as stepping stones in our own progress. We learn not to be too harsh on others when they make mistakes, having experienced it ourselves.

Mistakes made me grow

To grow, we must first identify areas for improvement.

Self-awareness facilitates targeted growth, while humility gives our growth purpose. Mistakes alter our lives permanently, leaving indelible marks on our hearts and minds.

Failures and hardships often resonate more vividly in our memories than effortless achievements, serving as powerful catalysts for growth.

Embracing mistakes as integral parts of our journey allows us to learn, evolve, and ultimately thrive.
